Since inception, HAF has been working with local community members on construction projects. Immediately following Hurricane Mitch, the first construction project built a water tower. Early construction activities focused on rebuilding homes destroyed by the hurricane. Over the years, we have also helped build churches, classrooms, kindergartens, and medical facilities.
We have worked in collaboration with the mountainside communities in the Quimistan Valley to address their needs. In more recent years, we have built freshwater storage and distribution systems, latrines, pillas (washbasins), and Justa stoves. These projects improve the health of the community and reduced incidents of respiratory and intestinal illness have proven their value.
We provide materials through your generous donations and labor is provided locally, often by volunteers, and by our mission teams.
